Parenting
“There are times when parenthood seems like nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you.”
Peter DeVries
“Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven.”
Henry Ward Beecher
“Parents are the bones on which children sharpen their teeth.”
Peter Ustinov
Children glue a couple together. Human nature being what it is, glue can sometimes feel constrictive. Navigating this gauntlet is not for the faint of heart. The division of labor gets skewed and nobody’s talking about it, leaving tension in the air. Romance evaporates. Sex is soon to follow. Kids seem to have radar when their parents might have a second to be intimate. Their perfectly timed demands effectively put a sledge hammer to your sex life.
Add work into the mix and money issues, crying kids and no down time, well what marriage wouldn’t be stressed out? Taking time out to talk to each other away from the kids, to be able to finish a sentence, to be able to listen to your mate in a new way, to really hear him or her away from the maddening house, this is like a massage for your marriage. Keeping the couple alive will go a long way toward keeping the family alive and making your parenting more effective.
I offer supportive counseling for parents in overwhelm. Your family is worth this investment.
