With all of us living longer lives, the issue of retirement can pose challenges of its own. It may be hard to conceive of not being focused on a job you have been doing for thirty or more years. The idea of waking up in the morning with nothing but a free day may actually be daunting for some. Even if you have hobbies and a bustling social life, these issues of not being useful or productive anymore can delay retirement way beyond it’s time. These are real and valid concerns. We’ve all heard about the guy that retires in June and dies in December!!! It’s no joke.
Too much time spent working or idling are equally problematic. I work with people on the brink of or already into their retirement to discover ways to ease the transition, find new meaning in life, reinvent yourself and find a way to make it work.
