Rape

The woman who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.

Chinese Proverb

What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life?  The world would split open.

The aftermath of rape is a treacherous one. It’s been said that over half of rapes go unreported. Whether you’ve been to the police or you haven’t, the road back to some semblance of normalcy and life as you once knew it is rocky and full of potholes.

Also known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the remanants of rape are deep and pervasive. Since the crime took place inside your body, you may feel dirty and full of shame. You may self medicate with alcohol or other drugs. It works for a time but it has only treated a symptom not the cause.

I offer one to one sessions for healing from this heinous experience. Occasionally I lead groups as well. The healing process after rape is never easy but well worth the work. You owe it to your body and your nervous system to have someone bear witness to your story, to hold the space open for you to feel all your unfelt feelings in the safety of the therapeutic hour and to move on, free from the toxic cloud rape brings. I use Yoga as an adjunct to the healing work.
