About Me

As a naïve graduate of U.C. Berkeley’s School of Social work in the sixties, I believed that the world was my oyster and that I could really make a difference. Starting out in Child Welfare, I soon became jaded dealing with bureaucracy and red tape which effectively obscured the task at hand, i.e., to improve the quality of dependent children’s lives. Disenchanted and burned out in a major way, I retired from the field, married and had two children of my own and never looked back.

Ten years later I found myself a single mother with two kids and no way of supporting us. I decided to give private practice a whirl and found it to be just the piece that was missing in my previous work experience. My work has brought me many blessings in my 42 years of private practice. To be witness to people in their darkest hours, to have the privilege of helping them through the tunnel into the light, is very gratifying. Finally I found my niche!

A field of red and yellow tulips under a blue sky with clouds.
Calm ocean waters under a clear sky at sunset.

I work in my Sunset District home in a quiet room overlooking the garden and an enormous oak tree. The issues I work with include all addictive behaviors, couples in crisis, (both gay and straight), effective parenting strategies, health issues, anxiety, depression, grief and most issues facing human beings. In the end it all weaves together. Since the pandemic, of course, I also work on Zoom.

My approach is eclectic. Like a photographer who adjusts for light, exposure and color, I tailor my approach to fit the individual’s age, life experience and presenting issues. Having been born and raised in San Francisco, and having lived through many cultural shifts, I bring a wide lens to my work.
